In ein paar Tagen geht es wieder los, und hab noch nicht mal die letzte Etappe hier eingetragen. Das kann natürlich nicht sein, und deswegen schnell hier der Nachtrag, den ich lange Zeit vernachlässigt habe. Der Kauf und Ausbau meines Wohnmobils kam dazwischen und auch viel Arbeit. Soll nicht wieder vorkommen.
Nach den Menschenmassen die ich hier in Italien letzten Sommer erlitten habe, war im September wieder Ruhe eingekehrt an Italiens Stränden. Von all dem Trubel war nicht das geringste mehr zu sehen. Ich konnte es selbst nicht glauben. Niemand war mehr da. Ein paar Spaziergänger mit ihren Hunden oder ein paar Angler. Das war es. Dass der Unterschied zwischen Ferien- und Schulzeit dermassen drastisch ausfällt, hätte ich nie gedacht.
Well, in a few days, I am leaving again for the next part of my tour and have not made any further entry here. Of course that can not be like that so I must catch up on this quickly. Buying a motor home and building the inside took me a lot of time and work. So this should not happen again.
After the masses of people I had to suffer from the last summer on Italian beaches, quietness and tranquility took place here in September. From all the hustle and bustle was nothing left anymore. I couldn't believe it myself, Nobody was there anymore. Only a few people with their dogs or some fishermen were here. I never imagined, that the difference between Summer vacation and school time was so huge.
Die folgenden Bilder zeigen die Küsten und Landschaften in der Bucht von Taranto. Hier gibt es nicht sonderlich viel Spektakuläres. Meist leere Strände, viel Ruhe und eine Gegend, die nicht oft von Touristen besucht wird. Aber schön war es hier allemal. Und niemand der sich darüber aufregte, dass man am Strand kampiert.
The following pictures show the coasts and landscapes in the bay of Taranto. There were nothing really spectacular. Mostly empty beaches, calmness and a part of Italy little visited by tourists. But beautiful in its own way, definitely. And nobody who were bothered that I camped on the beaches.
Auf dieser Etappe hatte ich fast immer schönes Wetter. Aber man merkte schon, dass der Sommer zurücklag. Kurze heftige Regenschauer ab Nachmittag waren keine Ausnahme. Mir war das allemal lieber als die lästige Hitze während der Sommermonate.
On this leg I had almost always nice weather. But I could feel that summer is in its final throes. Short and have rain in the afternoons were not an exception. I liked it more than the incredible heat during the previous months I was here.

Die Strasse von Messina und die Fahrt hinüber nach Sizilien. Der Fährverkehr nach Sizilien, den ich hier gerade hinter mir hatte war schon heftig und verlangte schon eine gute Portion "Coolness" um den Hafen von Villa zu passieren. Die grossen Schiffe die die Strasse durchfahren sind da schon das kleinere Problem.
Crossing the busy Strait of Messina (not so busy on the picture) over to Sicily. All the ferry traffic leaving from the ports of Villa, I just passed, was quite intense and needed some coolness to handle it. The much bigger ships going through the strait were, in fact, the smaller problem.
Stromboli von Sizilien aus. Freute mich schon riesig, diese Insel auf meiner Route zu haben. Aber erst geht es zu den anderen Inseln. Die erste war Vulcano , die nachträglich betrachtet eine der Schönsten war. Die Überfahrt war anstrengend. Schwarzer Sand das erste mal in meinem Leben, einen moskitoverseuchten Zeltplatz in der Nähe des Hauptortes und die Besteigung des schönen Kraters. Die Aussicht auf die benachbarten Inseln war auch atemberaubend.

But first planned to cross over to Vulcano, decided to find it the most beautiful island after I have seen them all. Going there was exhausting but was rewarded by my first black beach I visited in my life. Amazing to see this. Later paddling to near the main town where I found a place to stay and climbing the crater of the volcano the next day. The views from here were breathtaking.
Weiter ging es über Lipari nach Salina und über Filicudi nach Alicudi. Von Dort wieder zurück nach Filicudi und über Salina nach Panarea. Zu Guter Letzt war Stromboli an der Reihe, die bekannteste unter all diesen Inseln. Wie gesagt, ich war ausserhalb der Haupt Reisezeit unterwegs und es ging eher beschaulich zu auf den Inseln, mit Ausnahme von Stromboli. Nirgends hatte ich Probleme am Strand zu übernachten, hatte aber auch mein Zelt erst aufgeschlagen als es schon fast dunkel war. Bis auf Lipari hab ich auf allen Inseln übernachtet oder blieb für ein paar Tage.
Lipary and Salina islands were my next destination, and further to Filicudi and Alicudi on the next day. From there I went to and stayed in Filicudi and continued back to Salina (Northside) and Panarea. The island most famous, Stromboli, was the last one I visited. I have been here off season and it was tranquil in all the places I visited, except Stromboli. Never had problems to camp on the beaches although I set up my camp when it was almost dark. Except on Lipari I have camped on all the islands or stayed there for a couple of days.

Alicudi ist schon eine besondere Insel. Nicht nur dass es dort keine Autos gibt und alles, auch jegliches Baumaterial für die hübschen Häuser, die teilweise bis weit oben in den Hang hineingebaut wurden, mit Eseln und Pferden transportiert wird, sondern ist auch übersät mit köstlichen Kaktusfrüchten, die, als ich dort war , fast alle reif waren. Man hätte ganze LKW Ladungen zusammenbringen können, aber niemand schien sich für sie zu interessieren.
Alicudi is a special island. Not only that there are no cars and everything, also all building material for the pretty houses, some of them build high in the mountains, is transported by donkeys and horses, but also tons of almost ripe cactus fruits grew here, certainly quite a few truck loads in amount, but nobody seemed to have interest in harvesting those delicious fruits.

Und hier bin ich nun, auf meinem Stromboli. Trotz Verbots an der sogenannten Feuerrutsche vorbei, die Stelle der Insel, wo sich ab und an Lava und glühende Felsbrocken ins Meer stürzen. Wäre doch grossartig hier zu sein wenn es mal einen grösseren Ausbruch gibt. aber die sind selten.
Bevor es zum endgültigen Lagerplatz geht, musste ich noch zur kleinen Schwesterninsel Strombolichino, auf der ein kleiner Leuchtturm steht, den man über viele Stufen erreichen kann.
Nach der fast kompletten Umrundung der Insel machte ich es mir nahe des Hafens bequem. Hinter Fischerbooten hab ich mich ein wenig versteckt, obwohl ich das Gefühl hatte dass ich hier niemanden störe und auch sonst schien sich niemand dafür zu interessieren, dass ich hier mein Zelt aufschlug, immerhin blieb ich hier eine ganze Woche.
Hab mich erst mal erkundigt wo die Bergführer sind, die mit der Gruppe dann den Berg besteigen. Schon auf Panarea hab ich von Leuten gehört dass man auf den Vulkan nur mit Tour Guide hoch kommt und man es am Besten nicht alleine versucht um hohe Strafen zu vermeiden. Nur widerwillig schliesse ich mich so einer Gruppe an. In der Regel weiss ich wie mit der Natur umzugehen ist und auch deren Gefahr richtig einzuschätzen. Da kommt einem gleich der Gedanke, dass sich die Einheimischen diese Geldquelle einfach nicht entgehen lassen wollen.
Der Aufstieg und das Erlebnis oben waren trotzdem grossartig. Mein erster Vulkan hat sich auch von seiner besten Seite gezeigt, es gab mehrere Ausbrüche. Leider viel zu schnell wollte der Rest der Gruppe wieder hinunter, es war sehr windig und ziemlich kalt.
Stromboli ist sicherlich das Highlight unter den Inseln, aber auch die touristischste. Um den aktiven Vulkan zu erleben mit Sicherheit Pflicht, die anderen Inseln sind zum erholen. Alicudi und Vulcano waren für mich die schönsten dieser Inselgruppe.
And here I am, on my Stromboli. In spite of the prohibition to navigate close to the coast, I paddled along the so called Fireslide, where sometimes and in seldom cases lava and glowing rocks flow down the volcano. Wouldn't it be adventurous to be here in the water when this case occurs? Before I reached the place where I planned to build my camp I went over to the smaller Strobolochino, with the lighthouse on top, reachable by hundreds of stairs. After almost completely going around the island I landed near the main town and where the ferry arrives. A little bit hidden and behind some fisher boats I have found a comfortable place to stay. I didn't have the feeling that I bother someone, and after a week camping here, hardly anybody even noticed me.
First thing was to look for the guides, who lead groups to the volcano-rim . Trying to do this on your own is not recommended if you want to avoid heavy fines. Already on Panarea people told my about the necessity to hire a tour guide, what makes me upset enormously. I usually know how to behave in nature and know about the risks and joined unwillingly a group of people to climb the rim in the afternoon, guessing that the lokal people are glad to have their regular income provided by the government.
The hike through volcanic landscape and the views from the top was still amazing and unforgettable.
Stromboli is surely the highlight among the islands but also the most touristic. To see an active volcano, visit is mandatory, for relaxing and quietness the other islands. Alicudi and Vulcano were my favorite.
Noch ein Blick zurück nach Stromboli, bevor es über 50 km hinüber ans Festland ging. Vom Cap Vaticano aus, ging es eher unspektakulär , jedoch Landschaftlich ausserordentlich reizvoll, immer nach Norden. Hier war ich wieder alleine auf dem Wasser als auch an den Stränden. Die Küsten Kalabriens und Campaniens sind tatsächlich sehr schön. Berge mit versteckten Buchten und langen Sandstränden wechseln sich ab.

The coasts of Calabria and Campania are indeed quite beautiful. Mountains with hidden bays alternate with long stretches of beaches.

Die Amalfi Küste und die naheliegende Insel Capri waren wieder ein Highlight dieser Etappe. Ich würde wohl sagen dass es eine der schönsten Küsten Europas ist dieser Art. Und so eine Sehenswürdigkeit zieht natürlich auch viele Touristen an. Vorbei war es erst mal mit der Beschaulichkeit. Hier traf ich wieder Luxusyachten und Kreuzfahrtschiffe. Bin ich normalerweise schon fast allergisch gegen grosse Menschenansammlungen, fand ich es hier trotzdem sehr schön. Die Bergkulisse, die steil aus dem Meer ragt und die Orte die sich darin einbetten sind so sehenswert, dass man kaum den Blick davon abwenden kann.
The coast of Amalfi and the nearby island of Capri were again an other highlight of this tour. I would say it is one of he most beautiful coasts in Europe that kind. And such an attractive place is a magnet for tourists. Tranquility is not the case here. Cruise ships and luxury yachts were here to visits and a lot of people. Being almost allergic to a greater amount of people, I found it still very beautiful here. The Mountains reaching steep from the sea and the towns nestled high in the rocks are so attractive that I could hardly look away from it.

Ein weiteres und letztes Highlight sind mit Sicherheit die Inselgruppen westlich von Neapel: Ventotene, Ponza und Palmarola. Ich hab in diesem Blog schon mehrfach angedeutet dass ich solche Inseln einfach machen muss. Die Inseln sind da und deswegen muss ich hinüber. Und schön sind sie allemal, in erster Linie Ponza! Sie hat schon eine fast spektakuläre Küstenlandschaft, die man auf Fotos , noch dazu meine, gar nicht richtig darstellen kann. Palmarola ist ebenfalls eine sehr sehenswerte kleine Insel, die bis auf das Restaurant und die Villa eines Modeschöpfers unbewohnt ist.
Another and last highlight are for sure the islands west of Napoli. Ventotene, Ponza and Palmarla. I have mentioned already that I just must go to these offshore islands. They are there, so I must go, no matter if they are far away. And they are beautiful , especially Ponza. Ponza has a spectacular coastal landscape which I can hardly show you on my pictures. The same with inhabitant Palmarola. Only a restaurant and the house of a fashion designer is here.
